| Comments | The Maiden Voyage has returned to the airwaves of the capital district after 25 years. Maiden Voyage started at the SUNYA Campus radio cable station WSUA in 1971 and later moved to WMHT-FM from 1975-77. The Voyage hosted by O. J. or Dr. Joseph Bowman, Jr., brings a contemporary mix of jazz, R&B, Afro Cuban, and World music to the capital district audiences.
O. J. is a professor in the Department of Educational Theory and Practice, School of Education at the University at Albany with an interest in technology and how it is used in society. Radio is a technology that has been around for a long time and provides communities with rich resources and information.
The main focus of the music is jazz but because jazz has influenced music the world over, I share these influences with my audiences.
You will hear different music on the show but always remember that it is based on the jazz experience. I always feature artists that do not get the air-play they deserve and keep them in the listening ears of the audience.
The Maiden Voyage brings years of jazz experience to the capital region and will share the work of the old and new jazz musicians with the audience. We are presently on Thursdays from 4-6 PM at WCDB-FM, 90.9 FM and can be heard on the internet at wcdb.albany.edu.
If you want more information about O. J. please visit www.albany.edu/cuyt or send e-mail to jebowman@albany.edu |
